About the artist
Maria Niro is an artist based in New York City. She works with work video, installation, photography and sound. In 2011 Lincoln Center for the Performing commissioned her to create a video series for their White Light Festival. Her work has screened at both national and international art/film festivals, galleries, television, and performance spaces which include The Ukrainian Institute of America, Anthology Film Archives, MIM and More Gallery in Berlin, The 10th Annual River To River Festival by NYC Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Counter Culture Counter Cinema The New Underground at Exit Art Gallery (NYC), Millennium Film Workshop (NYC), Video DUMBO Festival Brooklyn, Los Angeles Arts Organization, Artists' Television Access San Francisco, The 7th and 8th Berlin International Directors Lounge, European Media Art Festival in Germany, Alpha-ville Whitechapel Gallery London, Souvenirs From Earth, WNDX Festival in Winnipeg, Canada and many others. Findings Part 4 - a video montage created with video and photos- appears in the book and on the website Reframing Photography: Theory and Practice. She is the founder and curator of the experimental online video group ArtVideoFilm - The Global Laboratory for artist and performers experimenting with film, video, photography, sound and new media.
